The past few days can be explained by the following picture... ............................................

And, American Idol started.... finally! I've had enough of the horrible singing on Superstar.....
however, there were not many stand-outs... hope they emerge in the later rounds of audition!

Get a box of tissue quick!

I have never cried for so long a time already..... and to think a Japanese drama of merely 11 episodes made me cry more than I've ever cried in years..... you can only stand in awe at the brilliance of the people who produced this show..... those with weak tear glands.... beware!

一リットルの涙 / 1 Litre of Tears
The plot is based on the true story of a 15 year old high school student named Kito Aya who contracted Spinocerebellar Degeneration. This is a disease that gradually robs a patient of his/her abilty to speak, control her limbs and there is no known cure for it. Her conditions slowly worsens as time passes and u can really feel her plight.... yet the encouragement she receives from her family and friends is really heartening.....

This is really one of the BEST shows I've EVER watched..... Super highly recommended! You will have a complete different view of life after watching it....

------------------------------
Trivial:
The Senpai tat Aya had a crush on, Kawamoto Yuji played by Matsuyama Kenichi is actually L from Death Note!! Just compare the two photos..... was really shocked when i found out....

First week of school

It's only the 3rd day and I can really feel the difference between Sem2 and Sem1.... my first sem was pretty slack so the pace of the current semester is really getting to me..... done many things on the first 2 days..... rushing here and there to settle many stuff like purchasing 2nd hand books from sellers and meeting up with them for collection.... I managed to get the Linear Algebra 1 book for half price ($8) and paid $25 for the bio textbook Biology: Life on Earth that is selling for over $40.... Worth it!

and reading for General Biology.... also, 6 questions from Freshmen Seminar that really fried my brian cells.... I was almost dead by the time I reached home yesterday..... really din expect the first few days to be so hectic..... haiz.... Can't wait for the weekend to come soon....
I can already forsee a really fast-paced and stressful semester ahead.... Brace Yourselves! or rather Myself! hahaha...

American Idol is back!Yes, u heard it here.... 17th January 2007..... I must mark tat down on my calender...
For those who don't noe, I'm a very big fan of American Idol.... have been watching it since season 2 and I haven't miss a single episode since.... actually, the Idol fever caught me during one of my lazy Saturday evenings in front of the TV.... I was tuning in to one of my favourite talkshows, ABC's 20/20.... this was where I witnessed the crowning of the 1st American Idol, Kelly Clarkson.... at tat moment, I din expect tat it would hit me so hard in the months to come when AI season 2 came to Singapore.... I was totally blown away by the excellent performances by amateur singers in America.... This was also the time I completely stopped listening to Chinese pop songs from HK, Taiwan and Singapore.... the disparity between the quality of the singers was too huge....

For the benefit of those who haven't caught AI before, let me give you a brief introduction and highlights of the various seasons:

Season 1:
Winner - Kelly Clarkson
AI launched Kelly to her present day superstar status..... having won 2 Grammys in 2006, Kelly is by far one of the most successful American Idols .... not having watched AI 1 since it's not aired in Singapore, I had to search the net for audio and video clips of her singing..... and she really blew me away with some superd performance. They included Aretha's 'Respect', 'Natual Woman' and 'Stuff like that there'. But the most memorable had to be her winning song 'A Moment Like This'.
Runner-up - Justin Guarini

Season 2
To me, it was a tie between the 'Guy from MAD' and the 'Velvet Teddybear'... the former is Clay Aiken and the latter is Ruben Studdard...
Personally, I rooted for Clay because of his stupendous rendition of the classic, 'Bridge Under Troubled Water'... search youtube for his video.... it's really amazing.... But the title eventually went to Ruben for his smooth voice and consistent performances

Season 3:
Winner - FANTASIA BARRINO
Barrino, a 19-year-old single mother , with a powerful, gospel-tinged voice, topped DeGarmo, an effervescent 16-year-old. It was a clear win from the start. Simon Cowell menioned tat Fantasia is the best contestant ever of any idol show in the world.... tat says a lot... She gave consistently superb performances..... Her defining moment, ie when it was clear that she was going to win, was her performance of 'Summertime' from the musical 'Porgy and Bess' when the judges gave her standing ovations (actually she got many standing ovations from the judges, probably the most received as compared to the other Idol winners.... yes tat includes Kelly Clarkson)..... Personally, my favourite performances are 'Fool in Love' and 'I Believe' ... Since then she's gone to pick up 4 Grammy nominations for her debut album 'Free Yourself', a first for any Idol winner.... I shall stop now or I'll never end.. hehe
Runner-up - Diana Degarmo

Season 4:
Winner - Carrie Underwood
This was probably one of my least favourite seasons.....this was because Fantasia set the benchmark too high last season and no one from this season could reach it..... My favourite, Anwar Robinson was voted off ealy and it was quite clear from the start that Carrie was going to win it. Her winning song was 'Inside your Heaven' and 'Angels Brought me here'
Runner-up - Bo Bice
His cd flopped, but he gave one of the most genuine and the best performance of season 4 by belting out an unplugged number during the top 3...... it was really spectacular

Season 5:
Winner - Taylor Hicks

He's not my favourite and I have nothing to say abt him cuz he's really the dark hourse.... I did not ecpect him to win at all... this was because all his performances were rather bland
Runner-up - Katharine Mcphee

notable mentions (my favs) : Elliott Yamin and Chris Daughtry
The finals should have been between this 2.... Elliot stunned me with his rendition of Stevie's 'Moody Moody Mood for love', 'A Song for You' and his love for his mum...

Chris was the rocker and his defining songs were 'Renegade', 'Innuendo' and ' I walk the line'

Woh! That's the end!
